why it exists

The problem.

Fuel prices vary significantly between stations, and finding the cheapest option nearby should not require checking multiple apps. On any given day, the price difference between the cheapest and most expensive station in a capital city can exceed 50 cents per litre, which is more than $25 on a single tank. Petrolmate aggregates every public source we can reach so the saving becomes the default.

note

Why it matters.

A single Australian household with two cars can save more than a thousand dollars a year simply by filling up at the cheaper station within a few kilometres. Petrolmate is the tool that makes that saving automatic.

under the hood

How it works.

Petrolmate connects to official government fuel-pricing APIs in every Australian state and territory. In New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory, and Tasmania, retailers are legally required to report price changes to government authorities, and we read them through the public APIs. Victoria uses a combination of official data and community-verified pricing. Every price runs through validation: freshness verification (stale prices are deprioritised), anomaly detection (obviously incorrect entries are filtered), and cross-source reconciliation (community reports are checked against official data).
